Microsoft Power BI Training That Turns Raw Data Into Reports People Trust

The teams that get the most out of Power BI are not the ones with the most data. They are the ones who can turn that data into a report that other people trust and act on, and do it without rebuilding everything from scratch each month.
Good training is what moves you from a spreadsheet you wrestle with to a model and a dashboard you can rely on. You learn to connect your sources, shape the data once, and build reports that refresh themselves and answer real questions for the business.
Vantage 365 runs Power BI training at three levels, from a free hands-on day to the full PL-300 certification.
Knowing which one you need is usually the hard part, so the comparison below answers that plainly, including the times a free or cheaper option is the sensible choice.

Which Power BI course is right for you?
The three courses suit very different starting points and goals, so it is worth placing yourself before you book.
| Course | Best for | DAX & Advanced Modelling | Certification | Length | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dashboard in a Day | A first taste of Power BI, or deciding whether to invest | No | No | 1 day | Free |
| DP-605: Prepare and Visualise Data with Microsoft Power BI | Building and sharing reliable reports, with no exam needed | Light touch only | No (foundation) | 1 day | From £229 |
| PL-300: Design and Manage Analytics Solutions Using Power BI | Analysts who need the full toolkit and the certification | Yes, in depth | Yes, Power BI Data Analyst | 3 days | From £999 |
In short: start with Dashboard in a Day if you are still weighing Power BI up, choose DP-605 if you need to build and share reliable reports without sitting an exam, and step up to PL-300 when you need DAX, row-level security and the certification. If DP-605 covers what you need, we will tell you, rather than steer you towards the pricier course.
The Power BI courses we run
Here are the three courses in more detail. Each link goes through to full dates, content and booking.

Power BI Dashboard in a Day — free.
A one-day, hands-on introduction run on Microsoft’s own workshop materials. You load data, build a report and publish a dashboard, all in a single day. It is the best way to decide whether Power BI is right for you or your team before spending anything.

A one-day foundation course for people who need to build and share reports they can rely on. You connect and clean data with Power Query, build a semantic model, design interactive reports and use Copilot in Power BI to work faster. It stops short of heavy DAX, which is what keeps it focused and affordable.

A three-day course and the recognised Microsoft certification for Power BI data analysts. It covers everything in the foundation day and goes further into DAX, row-level security and performance, and it prepares you for the PL-300 exam.

What Power BI training helps you do
Whichever course you choose, the point is the same: to make your working life with data quicker and more reliable. After training you should be able to:
- Connect Power BI to the sources you already use, including Excel, databases, SharePoint and CSV files, and refresh them without redoing the work.
- Shape and clean messy data in Power Query so your reports start from a base you can trust.
- Build a data model that answers questions correctly, rather than a pile of disconnected tables.
- Design clear, interactive reports and dashboards that other people can read and act on.
- Publish and share your work so the business sees one version of the truth.
These are practical skills you will use straight away, not theory you will have forgotten by the following week.

Power BI Training Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Power BI training cost?
It depends on the level. Dashboard in a Day is free, as it runs on Microsoft’s own workshop materials. DP-605 starts at £229 for the one-day foundation course. PL-300 starts at £999 for live, instructor-led delivery, with a lower-cost self-paced option coming soon. If budget is tight, start lower down the ladder; you can always progress later.
Should I take DP-605 or PL-300?
Choose DP-605 if your goal is to build and share reliable reports and you do not need a formal certification. It covers data preparation, modelling, report design and Copilot in Power BI in a single day. Choose PL-300 if you need DAX, row-level security and performance tuning, or if you want the recognised Power BI Data Analyst certification. Many people take DP-605 first and move on to PL-300 when their work demands more.
Who is Power BI training not for?
If you only need to read reports someone else has built, you probably do not need a full course, and a short internal handover may be enough. Training pays off when you are the one connecting data, building models and creating reports. If that is not part of your role, it is worth being honest about that before booking.
Do I need a background in data or coding to learn Power BI?
No. The courses start from a working knowledge of Excel and build from there. You do not need programming or a data science background. What helps most is being comfortable working with data in a spreadsheet and an openness to learning Power Query and modelling.
Which Power BI course leads to a Microsoft certification?
PL-300 is the course that leads to the Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification. DP-605 is a foundation course focused on practical skills rather than an exam, so it does not carry that certification, though it is an excellent stepping stone towards it.
How does Power BI compare with Tableau?
Both are capable tools built on similar ideas. Power BI tends to win on price and on how well it fits with Excel and the rest of Microsoft 365, which matters if your organisation already runs on those tools. Tableau is strong and flexible in its own right. For most teams already in the Microsoft world, Power BI is the more natural and cost-effective choice, and the underlying skills transfer if you ever move between them.
What support do I get after the course?
Vantage 365 includes premium learner support for three months after your course, along with hands-on labs and materials you can return to. You can ask questions and review what you covered while you put it into practice, which is when most of the real learning happens.
