Prepare and Visualise Data with Microsoft Power BI
What you will be able to do afterwards
By the end of the day you can take a pile of disconnected data and turn it into a clean, interactive Power BI report that supports real decisions. Not just a chart, but data connected, shaped and modelled properly underneath so the numbers hold up.
Why learn it with us rather than free
The Power BI material is on Microsoft Learn, free, and if you are self-motivated you can work through it. What a course gives you is pace, a trainer who can answer the question the documentation does not, and hands-on labs on realistic business data rather than sample sets. If you have never opened Power BI at all, our free Dashboard in a Day is an even gentler place to start.
What the day covers
The course follows Microsoft’s official DP-605 curriculum and is built to prioritise hands-on labs over slides, so you spend most of the day working in Power BI. It runs across six sections.
Get started building with Power BI
How Power BI Desktop, the service and mobile work together, and where Power BI sits within Microsoft Fabric.
Get data in Power BI
Connect to Excel, databases and online services, choose the right storage mode, and profile your data.
Clean, transform and load data
Shape data in Power Query: rename, split and format columns, handle nulls, and append or merge tables.
Configure a semantic model
Star schema design, relationships, cardinality and cross-filter direction, hierarchies and quick measures.
Design Power BI reports
Layout and accessibility, choosing the right visualisation, and filtering at every level from report to slicer.
Get started with Copilot in Power BI
Use Copilot to speed up report building, prepare a model for AI, and query your data in natural language.
Who this course is for
A good fit if you are
Not the right course if
Prerequisites: none formally, and no previous Power BI experience is required. A general familiarity with data, such as working in Excel, is helpful but not essential. Not sure you are ready? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly.
What is included
Genuinely hands-on
This is not a day of watching slides. Four of the six sections are practical labs, so you spend most of the day building in Power BI yourself, which is what makes the skill stick once you are back at your desk.
Three ways to take it
Online
Live over Microsoft Teams with a real trainer and full class interaction. £299 per person.
In person
See the In Person course dates for locations and associated costs.
Onsite / closed
At your site, your data, just your team. Best value for groups. Ask for a quote.
Self-paced (Launching soon)
On-demand modules to learn at your own pace, coming soon.
What it costs to not do it
Most organisations already own Power BI inside their Microsoft licences and barely use it. The cost is not the course, it is the analyst formatting spreadsheets by hand, reports that take days instead of minutes, and different people producing different numbers so nobody fully trusts the data.
One person who can connect, clean and model data properly and build a report others rely on usually pays the course back inside the first project. That is the honest maths, and it is why turning raw data into something people trust is worth a day of anyone’s time.
Matt gave us training on Power BI, while it was alot of information to take in over two days the training was engaging and I found it interesting. Matt kept us focused with a combination of presenting the info and letting us have a go with elements of practical learning.
The course ends. The support does not.
The hard questions rarely arrive on the day. They turn up a fortnight later, on your own data, when something will not behave. Both of these are included in the price.
Trainer email support
Email our support team with the questions that come up as you apply it to your own reports. Not a ticket queue, and not a chatbot. The people who teach you, answering the thing you are actually stuck on.
The learner community
A private community for people who have trained with us, with a board for each technology. Ask questions, read what others have hit, and get answers from our trainers and other delegates. Your access does not expire when the three months do.

Ask before you book
Tell us what you already do with data and what you are trying to get to. If DP-605 is right we will say so, and if a free session or PL-300 suits you better, we will say that instead.
Onsite & closed courses
For three or more people, onsite is usually better value, and we can use your own data and the reports your team actually needs to build.
Not sure DP-605 is the right course?
Tell us a little about where you are with Power BI and what you are trying to get to. A trainer will come back to you, usually the same working day.
If DP-605 is right for you, we will say so. If the free Dashboard in a Day or the deeper PL-300 suits you better, we will say that instead.

What you get that you will not get everywhere
Genuinely hands-on
Four of the six sections are practical labs. You spend the day building in Power BI, not watching slides.
Trainers who do the job
A Microsoft Certified Trainer who spends the rest of the week consulting on the platform they teach. Real questions get real answers.
Real prices, published
Every course shows its price and what is included. No “contact us for pricing”, no surprises.
We say when not to book
If the free Dashboard in a Day is enough, or you really need PL-300, we will tell you. Right course over any course.

The training received was well presented, insightful and provided a good balance between practical exercises and demonstrations.
Matt was knowledgeable, friendly and approachable throughout the training.
I found it a little difficult to navigate the app using the desktop training portal as the view was quite small, making it hard to read some icons and text.
Overall, the training was very useful and I look forward to implementing in my everyday work.
