Introduction to Microsoft Power Platform
What you will be able to do afterwards
Most people arrive at Power Platform through one door. Someone showed them a canvas app, or they were handed a flow to keep running, and the rest of the platform stayed a rumour. This day joins it up. You leave able to look at a business problem and say, with reasons, which part of the platform solves it and what it would take.
Why learn it with us rather than free
The PL-900 material is on Microsoft Learn, free, and if you are disciplined you can work through it. What a course gives you is a day where nothing else can interrupt, a trainer who can answer the question the documentation does not, and someone honest about which bits the exam actually cares about. It also gives you a person to ask three weeks later, when you are trying to explain to your own board why Dataverse is worth paying for.
And if you would rather build something than understand the landscape, say so. PL-7001: Create and Manage Canvas Apps puts you at the keyboard for most of the day building a canvas app. PL-900: Introduction to Microsoft Power Platform is the wider view. Plenty of people want both, and there is a sensible order to take them in.
What the day covers
Six modules and four guided labs, in one day. Microsoft rebuilt this course in July 2026, bringing it back to a single day and redesigning the labs as guided simulations, so nobody spends the morning fighting a tenant that will not provision. You spend the day learning the platform rather than waiting for it.
Teaching accounts for roughly four hours of the day. The labs account for two.
Describe the business value of Microsoft Power Platform
What is actually in the platform: Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Pages and Copilot Studio, and what each is for. Connectors as the thing that joins them to everything else. Power Fx as the common language. Plan Designer, which turns a written description of a business problem into a generated solution. Copilot throughout, and how to write a prompt that returns something useful rather than something plausible.
Describe Microsoft Dataverse
What Dataverse is and how it differs from a traditional database. The Common Data Model. Standard, custom, activity and virtual tables. Columns, rows and the relationships between them, one-to-many and many-to-many. Business logic through business rules and Power Fx. Using Copilot to create and edit tables, and the options for importing and exporting data.
Describe Power Platform governance and administration
Environments, environment types and Managed Environments. The security model, security roles, privileges and access levels. Data loss prevention policies and why the connector your team wants is sometimes blocked. The Power Platform admin centre and the maker portals. Compliance, data privacy and accessibility. Application lifecycle management, solutions, and the difference between managed and unmanaged.
Identify basic Power Apps capabilities
Canvas apps and model-driven apps, what each is good at, and how to choose. What comes built in to every model-driven app: views, forms, dashboards, search, editable grids and business process control. Copilot in Power Apps, both for building the app and as a control inside it. Creating an app through a conversation rather than a blank screen.
Identify Microsoft Power Automate components
Where automation pays off, and process mining for finding out where. Cloud flows, desktop flows and the three cloud flow types: instant, automated and scheduled. Triggers, actions, dynamic content and approvals. Building from a template. Copilot in Power Automate. Flow checker, testing a flow against previous run data, and monitoring performance once it is live.
Understand features of Copilot Studio agents
Where an agent is the right answer and where it is not. How Copilot Studio grounds answers in your own data using retrieval-augmented generation, and what Microsoft does and does not do with that data. Knowledge sources. Tools, including Power Platform connectors, agent flows, MCP servers, custom prompts and child agents. Publishing to Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot, SharePoint and websites. Monitoring adoption, running agent evaluations, and the five-stage development process from envision through to monitor and improve.
Who this course is for
A good fit if you are
Not the right course if
Prerequisites: none. This is a beginner-level fundamentals course and Microsoft sets no formal entry requirements. You will find the day easier if you are generally comfortable with technology and have some sense of how your organisation uses data, but no coding, no database experience and no prior Power Platform exposure is assumed. Not sure you are ready? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly.
What is included
About the labs
Microsoft redesigned the PL-900 labs in July 2026 as guided simulations rather than exercises in a live tenant. That was a deliberate decision and a good one for a fundamentals course. Standing up a trial environment for every delegate ate an hour of a one-day class and generated most of the problems, and on a course whose purpose is understanding the platform rather than shipping something, that hour is better spent learning. You still work through the four labs step by step and see exactly what the real interface does.
If what you want is your hands on a real tenant building a real thing, that is a different course and we would rather point you at it than sell you this one. Ask us about PL-7001: Create and Manage Canvas Apps or PL-7002: Create and Manage Automated Processes.

What it costs to not do it
Almost every organisation running Microsoft 365 already owns a substantial slice of Power Platform. Very few use much of it. The gap is rarely a licensing problem. It is that nobody in the building can say with confidence what the platform does, so every idea either dies in a meeting or turns into a purchase order for something you already have.
That gap has a shape you will recognise. A department buys a small SaaS tool for a job Power Apps would have done. An analyst builds something clever in a personal environment and nobody governs it, until they leave. IT blocks a connector because nobody wrote a data loss prevention policy anyone understands. And now agents are arriving in the same way apps did five years ago, with the same risk of everybody building them and nobody overseeing them.
One day and a couple of hundred pounds gets one person to the point where they can tell the difference between a good Power Platform idea and an expensive one. That is a cheap way to stop the next unnecessary purchase, and it is why fundamentals courses tend to pay for themselves faster than the ambitious ones.
If you learned PL-900 before this summer, you learned a different course
Microsoft rebuilt the course in July 2026 and updated the skills measured as of 24 July 2026. Here is what moved, so you can judge whether your existing knowledge still stands up.
What has gone
What is new
Already hold the certification from before July 2026? It does not expire in the sense of becoming invalid, but the platform it described has moved considerably. Talk to us about what is worth catching up on rather than re-sitting.

The course ends. The support does not.
Fundamentals courses have a particular afterlife. You go back to work, someone asks you a question because you are now the person who did the training, and you need a second opinion fast.
Trainer email support
Email our support team with the questions that come up as you apply it to your own reports. Not a ticket queue, and not a chatbot. The people who teach you, answering the thing you are actually stuck on.
The learner community
A private community for people who have trained with us, with a board for each technology. Ask questions, read what others have hit, and get answers from our trainers and other delegates. Your access does not expire when the three months do.
Where this fits
The Power Platform learning path
PL-900 is the front door. Here is what sits either side of it, so you land in the right place.
PL-900 Introduction to Power Platform
Understand the whole platform, get certified, and work out where you want to go next. No prerequisites at all.
PL-7001 Canvas Apps
Most of the day at the keyboard, building and publishing a real canvas app. PL-7002 adds Power Automate, PL-7003 covers model-driven apps.

Ask before you book
Tell us what you are actually trying to work out. If PL-900 is right we will say so, and if you would get more from a hands-on course or from a conversation with our consultancy team, we will say that instead.
Onsite & closed courses
For three or more people, onsite is usually better value, and we can use your own data and the reports your team actually needs to build.
Not sure PL-900 is right, or want it for your team?
These are the two conversations we have most often. One is someone working out whether this is the right course for where they are. The other is someone with six, twelve or thirty people to train, asking what a private course would look like.
Both start the same way. Tell us where you are and a trainer will come back to you, usually the same working day.
If PL-900 is right for you, we will say so. If a hands-on course such as PL-7001 suits you better, or you would get more from a private session built around your own systems and licensing, we will say that instead.
