Engaging and useful

August 4, 2026

Matt gave us training on Power BI, while it was alot of information to take in over two days the training was engaging and I found it interesting. Matt kept us focused with a combination of presenting the info and letting us have a go with elements of practical learning.

Great trainer, very useful session

July 9, 2026

I attended the App in a Day workshop in July 2026. The trainer, Matt, very very knowledgeable with Power Apps, and also very clear when taking us through the workshop. Even though I have used Power Apps before to create an app, this session gave me knowledge of areas of the App that I did not know previously. Really good session, I would reccommend to anyone who has either a basic knowledge, or no knowledge of Power Apps.

Useful intro to Power Apps

September 27, 2026

Useful intro to PowerApps. My only criticism would be the amount of presentation content before the practical exercises building apps commenced. Would be better to do more hand-on building and less learning about the product

David

Calm, relaxed and productive learning

The set up and presentation of the course was well planned, very calm, steady and open to free discussion around the topics included. Would definitely recommend.

Eye opening

I have no background knowledge in the usage but found myself understanding what the facilitator was demonstrating on Vantage 365

What you will be able to do afterwards

By the end of the day you can take a process that lives in a spreadsheet and turn it into a working app your team uses on a phone. Not a demo you watched. One you built, connected to real data, and published under your own name.

Create a canvas app from a blank canvas, a data source, a page design, a Figma file or a conversation with Copilot
Connect it to SharePoint, Dataverse, Excel and SQL, and tell tabular and action-based sources apart
Configure a gallery, with searching, sorting and navigation that works
Configure a details screen, with a display form bound to the record the user selected
Configure an input screen, with validation and proper submit, cancel and reset handling
Save, publish and share the app, roll back a bad release, and export it between environments
The Applied Skills credential. Every objective above maps to a task measured by Microsoft Applied Skills: Create and manage canvas apps with Power Apps, so the day doubles as your preparation for it. It is scenario-based: rather than answering multiple-choice questions you are dropped into a live lab and assessed on the work you produce, which is precisely why hiring managers pay attention to it. You take it yourself on Microsoft Learn, with 45 minutes in the lab and a 72-hour cooldown between attempts. Microsoft is retiring several Power Platform credentials during 2026, including the model-driven apps assessment, PL-500 and PL-600 on 30 June and PL-200 on 31 August. This one is not on that list. Our trainers walk you through the official study guide at the end of the day and tell you exactly where people lose marks.

Why learn it with us rather than free

The Power Apps material is on Microsoft Learn, free, and if you are self-motivated, you can work through it.

What a course gives you is pace, a trainer who can answer the question the documentation does not, and a running scenario you build end to end rather than seven disconnected exercises.

It also gives you someone to ask three weeks later, when you are building the real thing and it will not behave.

What the day covers

Seven modules, eight labs, and a running scenario. You are a Power Apps consultant at Contoso Pet Boarding, and customers want to submit boarding requests without ringing the office. By the close of play you will have designed the data model, built the app and published it.

Module 1 · 2 labs

Get started with Power Apps canvas apps

Where canvas apps sit alongside model-driven apps, Power Automate and Power BI. The Maker portal, Studio, Mobile and the admin centre. Six ways to start an app, and choosing between SharePoint, Excel, Dataverse and SQL as your backing store.

Module 2 · lab

Get started with Microsoft Dataverse

Tables, columns and relationships. The four table types, primary columns and the advanced options you cannot switch off later. Importing with Power Query, and building one-to-many and many-to-many relationships.

Module 3 · lab

Customise a canvas app

Galleries, forms, labels and text inputs, and the control properties that do most of the work. Searching and sorting. Your first Power Fx formulas, and screen navigation with Navigate and Back.

Module 4 · lab

How to build the user interface

Themes and what they control, editing your app with Copilot in natural language, branding through Fill, Hover and Border states, defining brand colours once in App Formulas, and designing for phone and tablet.

Module 5 · lab

Work with external data

Actions, triggers and the anatomy of a connector. The Office 365 Users connector. Collections. Then Patch in depth: creating rows with Defaults, updating existing rows, and combining Patch with ForAll and Filter to write many records at once.

Module 6 · lab

Write data in a canvas app

How forms really work: card controls bound to a single record. The three form modes and switching between them. Customising cards, linking a form to a gallery selection, and handling SubmitForm through OnSuccess, OnFailure and LastSubmit.

Module 7 · lab

Publish, share and maintain your app

Publishing a version, sharing with users and co-owners, version history and restoring any version from the last six months, app name and icon, and exporting as an .msapp file or package.

Microsoft Official Courseware, last refreshed by Microsoft in October 2025. That refresh added Copilot-assisted app editing, expanded coverage of the Patch function, and a container-based single-screen app demonstration. Microsoft updates the platform frequently, so the exact syllabus can change without notice.

Who this course is for

A good fit if you are

A business analyst who can see the process problem but cannot yet build the fix
A power user already deep in Excel and SharePoint lists
An IT professional asked to support Power Apps without having built one
In operations, HR or finance, digitising a paper or spreadsheet process
A consultant adding low-code delivery to what you offer clients
Booked onto, or considering, the Applied Skills assessment

Not the right course if

You have never opened Power Apps at all. Our free App in a Day is a gentler start, and PL-900 covers the wider platform. We will point you at whichever fits
You are a professional developer wanting plug-ins, custom connectors and the Dataverse SDK. That is PL-400
You need model-driven apps and business process flows rather than pixel-perfect mobile apps. See PL-7003
You need the app built for you. That is consultancy, not training
Prerequisites: none formally. You will get more from the day if you are comfortable writing formulas in Excel, understand the idea of creating, reading, updating and deleting data, and have used SharePoint lists or a similar structured source. Microsoft also suggests some awareness of data modelling and requirements analysis, but we teach the essentials of each as we go. Not sure you are ready? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly.

What is included

One full day of instructor-led training with a Microsoft Certified Trainer, online, in person or onsite
Microsoft Official Courseware and the accompanying Microsoft Learn modules
Your own standalone lab environment, provisioned for you, with no need to touch your production tenant
A Microsoft Learn achievement code, so the course appears on your Learn profile
A certificate and badge of completion for your LinkedIn profile
Guidance on booking and preparing for the Applied Skills assessment
All course materials and resources to revisit afterwards

Genuinely hands-on

This is not a day of watching slides. Three and a half of the day’s hours are spent in eight labs, and they build on each other rather than standing alone, so what you finish with is one working app rather than eight disconnected fragments. That is what makes the skill stick once you are back at your desk.

Three ways to take it

Online

Live with a real trainer and full class interaction, scheduled regularly. Same trainer, same labs and same courseware as the classroom.

In person

Small cohorts at our UK training venues, and the side conversations that make training stick.

Onsite / closed

At your offices, tailored to your data, your processes and your tenant, so the running scenario becomes one of your own. Best value for four or more. Ask for a quote.

Self-paced (Launching soon)

On-demand modules to work through at your own pace. Register your interest and we will let you know when it goes live.

What it costs to not do it

Every organisation has a spreadsheet that should have been an app. It started as a quick way to track something. Now it is emailed round twice a week, three people have their own version, and nobody is quite sure which one is right. Meanwhile, the request to build a proper system has been sitting in the IT backlog for eight months.

Most organisations already have Power Apps inside their Microsoft licences and barely touch it. The cost is not the course. It is the eight-month backlog, the duplicated data, and the hours a week spent chasing a process that a one-screen app would have handled.

One person who can build and publish a canvas app usually pays the course back on the first process they fix. That is the honest maths, and it is why a day at the keyboard is worth more than a month on the waiting list.

After the course

The course ends. The support does not.

The hard questions rarely arrive on the day. They turn up a fortnight later, on your own data, when something will not behave. Both of these are included in the price.

After the course

Trainer email support

Email our support team with the questions that come up as you apply it to your own reports. Not a ticket queue, and not a chatbot. The people who teach you, answering the thing you are actually stuck on.

Then, for as long as you want it

THIS COURSE

Book PL-7001 alongside PL-7002 or PL-7003 and you can add the optional Applied Workshop day, where you build something of your own from a blank page: a group discussion to shape the idea, a design phase, half a day building, then sharing what you made with the rest of the group. Your trainer circulates throughout, and there is no model answer.
