Engaging and useful

August 4, 2026

Matt gave us training on Power BI, while it was alot of information to take in over two days the training was engaging and I found it interesting. Matt kept us focused with a combination of presenting the info and letting us have a go with elements of practical learning.

Great trainer, very useful session

July 9, 2026

I attended the App in a Day workshop in July 2026. The trainer, Matt, very very knowledgeable with Power Apps, and also very clear when taking us through the workshop. Even though I have used Power Apps before to create an app, this session gave me knowledge of areas of the App that I did not know previously. Really good session, I would reccommend to anyone who has either a basic knowledge, or no knowledge of Power Apps.

Useful intro to Power Apps

September 27, 2026

Useful intro to PowerApps. My only criticism would be the amount of presentation content before the practical exercises building apps commenced. Would be better to do more hand-on building and less learning about the product

Calm, relaxed and productive learning

The set up and presentation of the course was well planned, very calm, steady and open to free discussion around the topics included. Would definitely recommend.

What you will be able to do afterwards

By the end of the day you can take a process that currently runs on chasing emails and turn it into automation that runs itself. Not a demonstration you watched. Flows you built, connected to real data, that trigger, branch, ask a human for a decision and act on the answer.

Choose the right trigger for the job, whether that is a schedule, an event in a data source, or a person pressing a button
Configure actions that notify people, in email, in Teams and on a phone
Implement conditional logic with conditions, switches, parallel branches and run-after settings
Create and configure approvals, then handle the approve and reject paths properly
Build a Dataverse data model that the automation sits on top of, with tables, columns and relationships
Query SharePoint and Dataverse with OData filters rather than pulling everything and looping through it
Configure owners and sharing, and troubleshoot a flow that has failed
The Applied Skills credential. The five tasks measured by Microsoft Applied Skills: Create and manage automated processes by using Power Automate are creating triggers, creating and configuring actions for notifications, implementing conditional logic, creating and configuring approvals, and configuring owners and sharing.

Every one of those is taught during the day, and four of the five are practised in the labs, so the course doubles as your preparation for it. It is scenario-based: rather than answering multiple-choice questions you are dropped into a live lab and assessed on the work you produce, which is precisely why hiring managers pay attention to it.

You take it yourself on Microsoft Learn, free, with 45 minutes in the lab at intermediate level and a 72-hour wait between attempts. It matters more than it did a year ago, because PL-200, PL-500 and PL-600 have now retired, and Applied Skills is where Microsoft has put the Power Automate validation that remains. Our trainers walk you through the official study guide at the end of the day and tell you exactly where people lose marks.

Why learn it with us rather than for free

The Power Automate material is on Microsoft Learn, free, and if you are self-motivated, you can work through it. What a course gives you is pace, a trainer who can answer the questions the documentation does not, and a running scenario you build end to end rather than eight disconnected exercises.

It also gives you someone to ask three weeks later, when the flow that worked perfectly in the lab is failing on your own data at two in the morning and the run history is not telling you why.

What the day covers

Five modules, eight labs, and a running scenario. You are a Power Automate consultant who has recently joined Contoso Coffee. The sales team tracks opportunities in Dataverse and keeps losing sight of the open ones, so you build the flow that shares the open opportunities daily.

Teaching accounts for three hours and ten minutes of the day, including the introduction. The labs account for three hours and twenty minutes. That balance is deliberate.

Introduction · lab

Introduction to Microsoft Power Platform

Where Power Automate sits alongside Power BI, Power Apps, Power Pages and Copilot Studio, and what connectors and Dataverse do underneath all of them. Administration, data loss prevention policies and connector classification. Then Lab 0, validating your lab environment so nobody loses twenty minutes later in the day.

Module 1 · lab

Get started with Power Automate

The five flow types and when each one applies. Triggers, actions and conditional logic. Dynamic content and how data passes from one step to the next. Three ways to start a cloud flow: with Copilot, from a template, or from blank. Conditions, switches and Apply to each. Naming that will still make sense to an administrator in a year. Sharing, owners and run-only permissions. Then troubleshooting: cloud flow activity, run history, and identifying why a flow actually failed.

Module 2 · lab

Get started with Microsoft Dataverse

Tables, columns and relationships. The four table types, primary columns, record ownership, and the advanced options you cannot switch off once enabled. Column data types, choice columns and autonumbering. Importing data with Power Query. One-to-many and many-to-many relationships, and the lookup column that creates a many-to-one relationship in a couple of clicks.

Module 3 · lab

Build approval flows with Power Automate

Connectors in depth: tabular against action-based data, and the triggers and actions each one offers. The SharePoint and Office 365 Outlook connectors. Then approvals: the approval action, the approval card, the flow waiting for a response, and the condition that acts on it. Processing approvals in the Power Automate portal, on mobile and inside Microsoft Teams. Parallel branches, parallel approvals and error handling.

Module 4 · lab

Build flows to manage user information

Button flows, and the trigger tokens that come free with them: user name, user email, date, timestamp and full location down to latitude and longitude. Accepting input from the person running the flow, across text, yes/no, file, email, number and date.

Module 5 · lab

Deep integration across multiple data sources

Dataverse triggers, change types and scope, and why scope is the setting people get wrong. Trigger filters, so a flow only runs when it should rather than running and immediately terminating. Querying with Get a row by ID, List rows, OData filters and FetchXML, and the SharePoint equivalents. Expressions. Data operations: Compose, Filter array, Select, Join, Parse JSON and the CSV and HTML table actions.

Microsoft Official Courseware. The course was created in February 2024 and last refreshed by Microsoft in October 2025. That refresh updated screenshots throughout, corrected a Microsoft Learn module link and added Copilot Studio to the Power Platform diagram. Microsoft updates the platform frequently, so the exact syllabus can change without notice.

Who this course is for

A good fit if you are

A business analyst who can map the process but cannot yet automate it
A power user already building in SharePoint, Forms and Excel who wants the steps in between to happen on their own
An IT professional asked to support flows other people have built
In operations, HR or finance, and responsible for an approval process that currently runs on email
A Power Apps maker who wants the app to trigger the rest of the business
Booked onto, or considering, the Applied Skills assessment

Not the right course if

You have never touched the Power Platform at all. PL-900 covers the wider platform first, and we will point you at whichever fits
You want desktop flows and robotic process automation, driving legacy applications through the user interface. That is a different discipline, and it is not covered here
You are a professional developer wanting custom connectors, plug-ins and the Dataverse SDK. That is PL-400
You need the automation built for you. That is consultancy, not training
Prerequisites: none formally. Microsoft expects you to be familiar with the Power Platform and to have some subject matter expertise in the business processes you want to automate. Microsoft also lists basic data modelling, user experience design, requirements analysis and process analysis skills as audience prerequisites. You will get more from the day if you have them, and if you arrive with a real process in mind rather than a blank sheet. We teach the essentials of each as we go. Not sure you are ready? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly.

What is included

One full day of instructor-led training with a Microsoft Certified Trainer, online, in person or onsite
Microsoft Official Courseware and the accompanying Microsoft Learn modules
Your own standalone lab environment, provisioned for you, with no need to touch your production tenant
A Microsoft Learn achievement code, so the course appears on your Learn profile
A certificate and badge of completion for your LinkedIn profile
Guidance on booking and preparing for the Applied Skills assessment
All course materials and resources to revisit afterwards

Genuinely hands-on

This is not a day of watching slides. Three hours and twenty minutes are spent in eight labs, from validating your environment through to trigger filters, and they build on each other rather than standing alone. What you finish with is one working solution rather than eight disconnected fragments. That is what makes the skill stick once you are back at your desk.

Three ways to take it

Online

Live with a real trainer and full class interaction, scheduled regularly. Same trainer, same labs and same courseware as the classroom.

In person

Small cohorts at our UK training venues, and the side conversations that make training stick.

Onsite / closed

At your offices, tailored to your data, your processes and your tenant, so the running scenario becomes one of your own. Best value for four or more. Ask for a quote.

Self-paced (Launching soon)

On-demand modules to work through at your own pace. Register your interest and we will let you know when it goes live.

What it costs to not do it

Every organisation has a process that runs on somebody remembering. A form comes in, someone spots it, someone else has to approve it, and the only thing linking those three steps is an email that gets buried. When that person is on leave, the process stops. When they leave the organisation, nobody is quite sure how it worked.

Most organisations already have Power Automate inside their Microsoft licences and barely touch it. The cost is not the course. It is the approval that sat unread for nine days, the report someone rebuilds by hand every Monday morning, and the fact that nobody can tell you where a request currently is without asking three people.

One person who can build a flow with an approval in it usually pays the course back on the first process they automate, and the second one takes an afternoon rather than a day. That is the honest maths, and it is why a day at the keyboard is worth more than another quarter of chasing.

Very useful in understanding that my ‘on-the-job’ learning is matching the best practices. Getting a demo and being able to interact with DataVerse and CoPilot was a good experience.

The course ends. The support does not.

The hard questions rarely arrive on the day. They turn up a fortnight later, on your own data, when something will not behave. Both of these are included in the price.

After the course

Trainer email support

Email our support team with the questions that come up as you apply it to your own reports. Not a ticket queue, and not a chatbot. The people who teach you, answering the thing you are actually stuck on.

PL-7002 Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be able to code to take the PL-7002 Power Automate course?

No. Power Automate cloud flows are built by choosing a trigger and adding actions from a list, so most of the logic is configured rather than written. You will meet expressions during the day, and they look like spreadsheet functions rather than programming, so anyone comfortable writing a nested IF in Excel already has the mental model. The Vantage 365 PL-7002 course teaches the expressions you need at the point you need them.

How much does the PL-7002 Power Automate course cost?

The Vantage 365 PL-7002 course costs £395 per person excluding VAT for the scheduled online course. Classroom and private onsite delivery are priced separately and quoted on request. The fee includes Microsoft Official Courseware, a dedicated lab environment, a Microsoft Learn achievement code, a certificate of completion and three months of trainer support. Call 0121 269 8660 for a team or onsite quote.

Is Power Automate free, and do I need my own licence to attend PL-7002?

You do not need your own licence to attend PL-7002, because Vantage 365 provisions a dedicated lab environment for every learner and you work in that rather than in your organisation's tenant. On licensing more generally, most Microsoft 365 plans include Power Automate rights for standard connectors, while premium connectors, Microsoft Dataverse and some other capabilities need additional licensing. Vantage 365 will advise on what you actually need before you commit to anything.

What is the difference between Power Automate cloud flows and Power Automate Desktop?

Cloud flows connect services to each other through connectors such as SharePoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Dataverse, while Power Automate Desktop is robotic process automation, driving applications through their user interface on a machine, and is the answer when a system has no connector or API. PL-7002 covers cloud flows. It names desktop flows as one of the flow types so you know where the boundary sits, but it does not teach you to build them. If desktop automation is what you need, say so and Vantage 365 will point you elsewhere rather than sell you this course.

How does the Microsoft Applied Skills assessment for Power Automate work?

Microsoft Applied Skills: Create and manage automated processes by using Power Automate is a free, timed lab assessment that you take yourself on Microsoft Learn rather than at a test centre. You are given a live environment and assessed on the work you produce, with 45 minutes at intermediate level and the option to request a small amount of additional time. You cannot save and return to it, so it is a single sitting, and there is a 72-hour wait before a second attempt. PL-7002 is the preparation for it: the labs, a walkthrough of the official study guide, and three months of support while you get it done.

How much of the PL-7002 course is hands-on?

Three hours and twenty minutes of the day are spent in hands-on labs, against three hours and ten minutes of instruction. There are eight labs, running from validating your lab environment through to trigger filters, and they build on each other, so you finish with one working solution rather than eight disconnected fragments. Microsoft schedules the course as one full eight-hour day, including breaks.

What is the difference between PL-7002 and PL-900?

PL-900 Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals is a broad awareness course covering Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate and Power Pages, whereas PL-7002 is narrow and deep, focused entirely on building automation in Power Automate. You finish PL-7002 with cloud flows you built yourself. Many people take PL-900 first, but it is not a requirement for PL-7002.

Should I take PL-7001 or PL-7002 first?

It depends on where the process breaks. If people have nowhere sensible to enter the data in the first place, start with PL-7001 Create and Manage Canvas Apps with Power Apps and build the app. If the data arrives perfectly well but nothing happens to it afterwards, start with PL-7002 and build the automation. Both are one-day courses designed to sit alongside each other, and delegates taking both can add the optional Applied Workshop day to build something of their own end to end.

Is the Power Automate Applied Skills credential being retired?

No. Microsoft retired several Power Platform credentials during 2026, including PL-500 Power Automate RPA Developer and PL-600 Power Platform Solution Architect on 30 June 2026, PL-200 Power Platform Functional Consultant on 31 August 2026, and the Applied Skills assessment for model-driven apps on 30 June 2026. Create and manage automated processes by using Power Automate is not among them and remains available. With PL-500 gone, it is now the principal Microsoft credential validating Power Automate skills.

Can Vantage 365 run PL-7002 for my team using our own data?

Yes. Onsite and private virtual deliveries of PL-7002 can be tailored so the running scenario becomes one of your own approval processes rather than the fictional Contoso Coffee scenario in the standard courseware. Teams usually leave those sessions with something close to a working flow, and onsite is generally better value from four people upwards. Call 0121 269 8660 to talk it through.

What should I do after the PL-7002 course?

Sit the Microsoft Applied Skills assessment while it is fresh, ideally within a fortnight, and automate one real process at work in the same period. After that, PL-7001 Create and Manage Canvas Apps with Power Apps adds the front end your flows can sit behind, and PL-400 Microsoft Power Platform Developer is the step up into professional development.

What does the PL-7002 Power Automate course cover?

PL-7002 covers building and managing automated processes in Power Automate across five modules and eight hands-on labs in one day. It covers the five flow types and when each applies, creating cloud flows with Copilot, from a template or from blank, triggers and actions, dynamic content, conditional logic using conditions, switches and parallel branches, approvals from the approval card through to acting on the response, building a data model in Microsoft Dataverse with tables, columns and relationships, the SharePoint and Office 365 Outlook connectors, button flows and trigger tokens, Dataverse triggers with change types, scope and trigger filters, querying with OData filters and FetchXML, data operations such as Compose, Filter array and Parse JSON, sharing and owners, and troubleshooting failed runs. It uses Microsoft Official Courseware, last refreshed by Microsoft in October 2025.

What are the prerequisites for the PL-7002 course?

There are no formal prerequisites for PL-7002, and no coding experience is needed. Microsoft's stated audience is people already familiar with the Microsoft Power Platform who have subject matter expertise in the business processes they want to automate, and lists basic data modelling, user experience design, requirements analysis and process analysis skills as useful background. You will get most from the day if you arrive with a real process in mind rather than a blank sheet. Describe what you are trying to automate and Vantage 365 will tell you honestly whether PL-7002 is the right course, including when the answer is PL-900 instead.

What is a trigger in Power Automate?

A trigger is the event that starts a flow, and every flow has exactly one. Triggers come in three broad shapes: a schedule, such as running every weekday at eight; an event in a connected service, such as a new item added to a SharePoint list or a row updated in Microsoft Dataverse; or a person, pressing a button or submitting a form. Everything that follows the trigger is an action. Choosing the right trigger, and filtering it so the flow only runs when it genuinely should, is the difference between automation that helps and automation that fires four hundred times a day and gets switched off.
